EMerald Geomodelling AS is based on 10 years of Research, Development and Innovation at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI).
By gathering, fusing and visualizing various geotechnical, geophysical, and geological data we aim to eliminate geological uncertainty. Through machine learning, we create unified subsurface models to facilitate quicker and more informed engineering decisions. Our interactive models make our insights easily accessible to experts and stakeholders, helping to minimize environmental impacts and financial risks in construction and infrastructure projects.
EMerald Geomodelling AS was founded in 2019 and is based on over 10 years of experience and research in the fields of innovative airborne geophysics for geotechnical use by the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). Here are some of the major milestones that led to our success.
Prior international surveys for tunnel projects in Zambia and Bhutan provided the basis for an exceptional assignment in South America.
We carried out a survey in the high Andes to support a hydropower project during the tunnel construction phase. In this unique setting, the project owner utilized the provided models to reduce the geological risk during construction contract re-negotiations.
Motivated by the great appreciation of our value proposition in the Brazilian Railway industry, we established a fully owned business unit in Brazil to work closer with asset owners Rumo Logistics and Vale Rails.
India is undergoing rapid development, with significant investments in large-scale infrastructure projects such as roads, railways, and hydropower. The country’s growth and the increasing demand for advanced technological solutions to manage geological risks make it a natural fit for us. By entering the Indian market, we aim to support these vital projects with our cutting-edge technology, reducing uncertainty and optimizing construction processes.
Our expertise in airborne geoscanning and 3D modeling will offer Indian industries an innovative approach to managing subsurface conditions, ensuring safer and more efficient project outcomes.
Andi Pfaffhuber is a board member with a PhD in Applied Geophysics from Bremen University. He has led innovations in airborne geo-intelligence and introduced airborne geophysics to NGI in 2007. In 2012, he established NGI's Geosurveys section, specialising in geophysical and remote sensing methods for geotechnical projects, while also contributing to the growth of NGI’s Australian subsidiary.
Kristoffer is the Director of GeoData and Technology at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). He holds a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from NTNU, specialising in offshore foundations. Kristoffer leads NGI's development of innovative technologies for geological assessments and offshore infrastructure projects.
Einar is the CEO of StartupLab and holds a degree from The University of Manchester.
Dominik is the Director of Natural Hazards at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). He holds a PhD in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology from Bauhaus-University Weimar, Germany, and a Dr.philos in Earthquake Risk Assessment from the University of Bergen (UiB).
Ronny is the Head of Construction at StartupLab. He holds a BSc in Economics and Administration from BI Norwegian Business School and has completed an Executive Program at Singularity University in Silicon Valley.
